Relapse Prevention Therapy
In order to prevent relapse and maintain solid sobriety, a specific and individualized set of coping mechanisms and relapse prevention tools should be developed. We teach our clients how to identify their personal relapse triggers and implement relapse prevention strategies so they consistently feel strong and capable in their recovery. Clients work on honing their relapse prevention tools in an individual and group therapy setting, and they have the opportunity to utilize what they have learned in a real life setting and process their successes and challenges in group therapy while offering one another peer support and encouragement.
12 Step Support
At Guardian IOP New Brunswick we believe in the benefits associated with recovery oriented peer support groups, including the 12-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. We encourage each of our clients to participate in a peer support group outside of their IOP programming, and we offer 12-Step education services and additional support whenever necessary.
Aftercare planning is an important part of the outpatient treatment process, and it focuses on setting clients up for continued success once treatment concludes. Our case managers work to create individualized aftercare plans that cater to the unique needs of each client. In many cases, aftercare plans include a continuation of one-on-one therapy, recovery program involvement and a continuation of holistic treatment methods (like yoga or mindfulness meditation).
There are many benefits of a regular yoga practice when it comes to addiction recovery. Not only does it calm the mind, reduce impulsivity and aid in self-reflection, yoga helps keep the body healthy and produces “feel good” chemicals like dopamine and serotonin. Our yoga classes are taught by an instructor who has a clinical background and substance abuse counseling license. In addition to yoga therapy we offer group workshops on breathwork, stress management and relaxation sessions, creative art therapies and guided meditation sessions.
