Guardian IOP Addiction Recovery
Adult Rehab Program
Guardian IOP offers men and women of all ages and walks of life the opportunity to heal thoroughly and comprehensively in a personalized intensive outpatient program. Intensive outpatient – more commonly referred to as IOP – provides a lower level of clinical and therapeutic care to those who have either completed inpatient treatment or who simply require more flexibility and personal freedom in their recovery program. It is always recommended that any individual who is suffering from a substance abuse disorder commit to a multi-phased continuum of clinical care – one that begins with medical detox, transitions to inpatient drug and alcohol rehab and concludes with IOP and long-term aftercare. However, we understand that this model of recovery is a major commitment, and some individuals cannot step away from their personal obligations for months at a time. If you are the sole caretaker of a dependent or you need to continue showing up for work in order to provide for yourself and for others, IOP might be an ideal option.
In most instances, IOP meets five days a week for several hours every day, and includes a careful combination of therapeutic services, relapse prevention training, life skills training and holistic methods of recovery. Our program also focuses on 12 step immersion and trauma-informed care.
While highly individualized treatment is a component of every effective recovery program, the importance of separating clients by age is all too often overlooked. The truth is that men and women in different age groups have a more difficult time relating to one another, and this can make getting the very most out of the treatment experience rather difficult. At Guardian IOP we offer age-specific care, including a comprehensive and highly effective adult rehab program.

Age-Specific Clinical Care
Choosing an age-specific program of recovery helps ensure that all of the provided services cater specifically to your unique needs. At Guardian IOP our adult rehab program focuses on the underlying issues and recovery-related challenges that are unique to men and women who have established careers and family lives. Some of the age-specific clinical and therapeutic services that we provide to our adult clients include:
- A focused therapeutic environment – Older adults are more likely to abuse chemical substances like prescription painkillers or alcohol, for example. Many older adults do not have extensive experience with drugs like heroin or methamphetamine, and benefit from being surrounded by like-minded men or women who have faced many similar struggles. Older adults likely grew up believing that substance abuse was a matter of weak willpower, and might require a more thorough introduction to the disease model of addiction. They are more likely to grapple with feelings of guilt and shame that coincide with not being present for their children and spouse. Providing age-specific group therapy sessions allows for more openness, more honesty and a more safe and effective therapeutic environment.
- Medication management – The majority of older adults are on one type of medication or another, either for a pre-existing health concern or a mental health condition. It is not uncommon for older adults to be prescribed a habit-forming pain medication to help with chronic pain-related issues. If a client comes to us with a current prescription for a habit-forming medication, we do everything in our power to figure out a viable and effective alternative. In some cases, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is utilized as part of a comprehensive curriculum of clinical care. If MAT is deemed necessary, on-staff physicians closely oversee and monitor use to ensure that no complications arise. If a client comes to us with an undiagnosed or untreated mental health condition, he or she has access to psychiatric evaluation services as well as on-site psychological treatment.
Our Drug & Alcohol Treatment Services Include
- Intensive family therapy – Many older adults are married and have children, making committing to a long-term program of recovery that much more difficult. We provide intensive family-related services to ensure that the family is able to return to a healthy state of functioning and that all immediate family members heal individually and simultaneously. This is especially crucial if the individual is attending our IOP program during the day and returning home every evening.
- Pain management and physical rehabilitation services – As we get older, our physical bodies often struggle to keep up with our minds. It is not uncommon for older adults to experience some degree of chronic pain, whether that stems from a diagnosable condition like Arthritis or is simply a result of decades of wear-and-tear. Rather than prescribe narcotic and potentially addictive pain medications, we do everything in our power to get to the root of the problem while providing effective holistic alternatives to pain management. If a client has sustained an injury in the past, he or she might be placed into physical therapy. Some other non-invasive pain management methods we employ include massage therapy, acupuncture and yoga.
- Fostering a sense of community – People are more likely to open up to and feel comfortable around a group of peers that they are able to deeply relate to. At Guardian IOP we believe in the importance of building a reliable community of sober supports, and we have repeatedly found that separating clients into groups of like-minded individuals is conducive to the maintenance of long-term sobriety.
Our adult rehab program takes all of these factors into careful account. We understand the unique challenges that older adults face as they navigate early recovery. Regardless of your specific needs and personal requirements, we custom-tailor a unique rehab program to help you thoroughly heal and maintain fulfilling sobriety for years to come.
