Guardian Intensive Outpatient Program
Outpatient Therapy Programs

At Guardian IOP we are dedicated to providing men and women of all ages and walks of life with the most individualized clinical and therapeutic care available. Our outpatient treatment program provides clients with a wide range of effective and proven therapeutic modalities, delivered by a team of licensed and highly experienced professionals. Outpatient treatment offers intensive clinical care in a standard treatment facility, but provides a significantly lower level of personal commitment than one might find in inpatient rehab or in an intensive outpatient program. In most cases, outpatient treatment serves as a vital step on a multi-phased continuum of clinical care. However, in some instances, outpatient treatment can serve as a stand-alone solution. This is generally only the case when a substance abuse disorder is extremely mild, and when a higher level of clinical care is not necessarily required. If you are unsure whether or not our outpatient treatment program is a good fit for you and your personalized needs, we are available to help you figure that out. Simply give us a call and one of our Treatment Advisors will help place you in the level of care that suits you the best and meets all of your personal recovery requirements.

Our Outpatient Therapy Programs

Effective addiction treatment is multi-faceted, and includes a wide range of therapeutic services. At Guardian IOP, we have developed an integrated outpatient treatment program that focuses on helping clients work through underlying issues while developing the skills and tools they need in order to stay sober through adversity.

Our 12-step program focuses on a thorough education on the 12-step method of addiction recovery and 12-step program immersion. Daily participation in a 12-step group like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous provides the extra support and guidance required for long-term sobriety. Many of our clients come to us believing that the 12-step method of recovery simply “doesn’t work.” This is usually because they believe they will recover from substance abuse and dependence if they simply show up to meetings once or twice a week. When it comes to 12-step programs, we want to teach our clients that they truly get out what they put in. If they attend at least one 12-step meeting on a daily basis and actively work through the steps with a sponsor, there is a good chance that they will be able to maintain a healthy, sober lifestyle. Our 12-step therapy program features on-site and off-site meeting attendance, a thorough education on the steps and the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and a high level of built-in accountability.

Relapse prevention therapy is absolutely essential to long-term sobriety. Many of our clients who have already undergone a multi-phased program of clinical care have experienced the devastation that goes hand-in-hand with a slip back into drinking or drug use. In most cases, relapse occurs because an individual is not equipped with the coping mechanisms he or she needs to work through personal relapse triggers. We help our clients identify high risk situations and develop a personalized relapse prevention plan, while developing the tools and skills necessary to successfully work through uncomfortable emotions. We also teach our clients to view past relapses as opportunities for personal growth rather than setbacks or failures.

At Guardian IOP we acknowledge the importance of family involvement, and we believe that the family should be involved during every stage of the recovery process. Active addiction deeply impacts the lives of everyone it touches – and the family members of our clients are often deeply affected and left with significant emotional and psychological damage. Our family therapy program works to restore healthy family functioning while teaching our clients and their loved ones how to effectively communicate, set and maintain personal boundaries and support one another through the early recovery period (which can be a difficult time to navigate). We offer a family workshop in addition, which focuses on addiction education and allows the family members of our clients to heal on a deeper and more lasting level.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an effective psychotherapeutic technique that helps clients learn to identify and change negative behavioral and thought patterns. We utilize a wide range of strategies that were specifically designed to help our clients overcome self-destructive and detrimental thoughts and behaviors, including relaxation techniques, journaling and role-playing. This therapeutic method is extremely goal-oriented, and our licensed therapists actively help clients develop the coping mechanisms they need to challenge adverse emotions and change negative behaviors long-term.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a cognitive-behavioral therapy method that focuses on emotional regulation and improved mindfulness. Our DBT sessions are designed to help clients learn to live in the present moment as they cope with stress in healthy ways and improve their relationships with other people and with the world around them. DBT has proven effective in treating mental health conditions as well, and it is a therapeutic method that we commonly utilize as part of our dual diagnosis treatment program.

When a client enters into an outpatient treatment program, he or she is likely working towards complete independence. During this phase of the recovery process, it is important to develop life skills that coincide with independent living, like financially supporting oneself, finding and maintaining a full-time job or returning to school and actively working towards personal goals. Our life skills training therapy program is highly comprehensive, and equips clients with the skills they need to reintegrate as successful and fully functional members of society.

Both individual and group therapy sessions are essential to effective addiction recovery. Clients have access to at least one one-on-one therapy session every week, where they will delve deeper into their personal experiences with substance abuse, explore any unique challenges that they might face in early recovery and work through any underlying issues. Group therapy sessions take place every day that the outpatient program meets, and explore a wide range of pertinent recovery-related topics. Some of the topics that are covered in our group therapy sessions include addiction education, how to work through triggering situations, the development of crucial life skills, 12-step program immersion and much more. Group therapy sessions are demographic-specific, and are broken down by age and gender allowing for a more focused treatment experience.

Yoga therapy is often utilized as a complementary treatment method, when that can be highly effective when combined with an intensive therapeutic program of addiction recovery. Men and women who make a near-daily yoga practice part of their comprehensive recovery program experience a wide range of benefits, including pain relief, stress relief, increased physical strength, increased self-awareness, improved self-confidence and an overall improvement of health and wellness. At Guardian IOP we have several licensed yoga therapists on staff, who lead therapeutic yoga classes that focus on comprehensive physical, mental and emotional healing.
