Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a method of psychotherapy geared towards helping individuals overcome the devastating and disruptive symptoms that go hand-in-hand with unresolved trauma. Our licensed EMDR specialist works with one client at a time, directing lateral eye movements in order to access traumatic memories that have been subconsciously buried over time. These traumatic memories are then worked through thoroughly, and as this information is processed, clients begin to experience reduced stress levels, a reformulation of negative beliefs and a deep emotional healing that would not have otherwise been possible.
The EMDR Institute explains that between 84 and 90 percent of single-trauma victims who were treated with EMDR no longer experience symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder after undergoing three separate 90-minute sessions. The study also suggests that over 100,000 licensed clinicians currently utilize this therapeutic method, and that over the course of the past 25 years millions of people have been effectively treated. While we do understand that different treatment methods work for different clients, many of our clients who suffer from unresolved trauma have experienced great success in their EMDR sessions.
Our Lifeskills Training program focuses on helping clients develop the skills they need to go on and live healthy and fulfilling lives as successful members of society. We focus on the development of a wide range of vital skills, from healthy communication, critical thinking and engaged learning to working towards financial independence and maintaining physical health through nutrition and exercise. Our Lifeskills Training program is individualized to cater to the unique needs of each client. Our main goal is preparing each client for the challenges they are liable to face in everyday life. For example, one client might need to pay special attention to budgeting and saving money, while another client might need to pay special attention to critical thinking. No matter what areas of life you or your loved one needs to work on, Guardian IOP is available to help.
Intensive individual and group therapy sessions are the backbone of our therapeutically-based outpatient treatment program. Clients have access to at least one individual therapy session every week as well as numerous group therapy sessions. An individual therapy, clients have the opportunity to work through their personal issues and the unique challenges they are facing in a safe and supportive setting. In group therapy, pertinent topics are addressed and clients have the opportunity to offer and accept peer support while further honing communication skills.
